New renewable and low-carbon gas production sectors: challenges and prospects

In a context marked by the climate emergency and carbon neutrality targets for 2050, decarbonizing the energy mix relies both on efforts to reduce consumption and on the deployment of innovative technologies capable of sustainably reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
In addition to methanization, this conference will highlight three emerging and complementary sectors for the production of renewable and low-carbon gases: pyro-gasification, hydrothermal gasification, and power-to-methane. These technologies make it possible to recover biomass and waste that is currently underutilized or poorly exploited, as well as surplus renewable or low-carbon electricity.
The conference will address the technological, environmental, and economic challenges of these sectors, their synergies, particularly the recovery of biogenic CO₂ from methanization, as well as their positive externalities: reduction of the carbon footprint, waste treatment, elimination of certain pollutants, and water recovery.
Through an overview of progress and development prospects, this session will shed light on the strategic role of these new sectors in the energy transition.
